Boys XC Team Pays It Forward

The boys cross-country team kicked off their season full force, not only winning a race, but also making donations to help our community. This year the team started donating leftover food from pasta parties to the Lazarus House, a local homeless shelter. Pasta Parties are an ongoing tradition for both the girls and guys cross country teams wanting to fuel up the night before a race.

“The team started donating the leftovers after our first pasta dinner this season,” team mom Courtney Wilson explained. “We are never quite sure how much the team will eat from year to year…[in the] beginning of this season, we were asking for more than the boys would eat.”

Due to the Lazarus House’s prime location in Downtown St. Charles, they were able to easily deliver the food every Friday night, after the parties. The abundance of food left from the team provided an opportunity for giving back to our community.

When asked about why other groups should start doing the same, Wilson emphasized that she thinks that “anytime we can reduce food waste while providing for local food insecurity, it’s worth considering.” She asks that if any other groups or teams are able to donate, it’s only one quick call away to the Lazarus House.
