GAME PREVIEW: Set Your Sights Skyward for Nintendo’s “Most Anticipated” game of the year–Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
March 17, 2023
This May 12, Nintendo is set to drop “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.” This would be the second installment in the Breath of the Wild type of Zelda games that fans have experienced for the last few years.
This game is, according to The Game Awards, “The most anticipated game of 2022.” Now while the year is not correct, this is partially due to the Covid 19 pandemic, which catalyzed a series of altered released ates.
Because of these constant release changes, many fans have been resigned to waiting for thise new game to drop.
With that inm ind, let’s explore the context behind this up-and-coming game.
Early in 2017 on March 3, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” was released. The goal was like many other Zelda games. You had to complete certain areas to gain help in the final battle, get weapons and food, then you were off to beat Ganondorf and ultimately save Princess Zelda and Hyrule.
However, Breath of the Wild had an aspect to it that many players, including myself, liked about the game—and that was the open world and ability it gave players to explore.
Nintendo added tons of details to Breath of the Wild’s open world, and from the trailers, it seems like they have done this in Tears of the Kingdom as well.
Speaking of which, some of you may be asking, “What is the game about? What is the prevalent story?”
Since the game has not been released yet, we do not know the entire story, however some of the news from Nintendo allows us to draw speculations on what it will be.
The official answer to this question on Nintendo.com is, “In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the Kingdom?”
While Nintendo is vague on the story of Tears of the Kingdom, we can get some information from the trailers.
From these trailers, Nintendo appeared to have made this game with a darker tone than its predecessor.
One of the trailers shows Zelda and Link spelunking in dark dungeons. Another trailer shows Ganon’s malice (From Breath of the Wild) showering the Hyrulian landscape in a crimson darkness.
However, the game does appear to balance this dark tone with a light, heroic counterpart.
We can see this in all the trailers, as they show Link going from island to island and exploring with the goal of beating the malice that has infected Hyrule.
What Nintedo has done with balancing out its previews of the game is a spectacular way to keep Zelda fans interested in this new game.
Unfortunately, Nintendo has been very careful not to release any spoilers or other information regarding the game, its environments, monsters or even the weapons. There is no other information that is able to be presented at this time because of Nintendo’s vagueness.
To all the Zelda fans at school, stay patient for the release and keep playing Breath of the Wild.
Although, if you are reading this article and think that this game might be a good buy for you, I would recommend it. Nintendo’s Zelda series has been great and super fun to play through.
So, If you are a student who likes video games and adventure, exploration and a great storyline to play through, then stay tuned for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s release on May 12, 2023.
