On Oct. 5, St. Charles East’s varsity football team lost 30-7 to longtime rivals St. Charles North in their home territory across the river.
North Star senior quarterback Ethan Plumb made a 25-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Braden Harms giving the North Stars a lead in the first quarter. Plumb then made a 28-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Keakton Reinke, giving them a lead 14-0 in the second quarter. Plumb made yet another 8-yard pass to sophomore wide receiver Christopher Akpede, still in the lead.
“We battled some injuries this year on the offensive side so to have our run game produce the way that it did was really exciting for us,” said football coach Nolan Possley. East’s top three offense of the night, junior Peyton Faifley, senior Dom Micaletti and junior Vincent Armato carried the team throughout the game. The Saints had a good rushing attack with a total of 156 yards. Micaletti had 88 rush yards and made one touchdown.
“The outcome wasn’t what we were looking for, but it’s always the most exciting game of the year for us,” Possley said. “We love the tradition of it, the series right now is even in terms of the history of the rivalries so it’s nice to have that and know we’re neck and neck and every year it’s going to bring excitement.”
Every year, the crosstown classic holds the Kick-o-Thon between the dance teams to raise money for various local charities.
