This month, our school’s theater department worked hard to put on a wonderful performance of the play “Almost, Maine.” “Almost, Maine” is an exploration of love and human relationships set in a small fictional town called Almost in Maine. The play consisted consists of nine vignettes, which each told a unique story displaying the many forms of love.
This play was a refreshing break from the usual one plot plays we see. I didn’t know what to expect before I saw it, but I quickly learned that it was a sweet, sentimental play with humorous aspects all throughout it. While watching this play, I felt a jumble of emotions. I really enjoyed how they were able to distract from sad moments with funny jokes because it kept the mood light and fun. The simple wintery background serves as a perfect place for all sorts of storylines to unfold.
With all this being said, a lot of the stories ended sort of abruptly, with a lingering sense of sadness or loss, which could have left viewers wanting more. Personally, I think that ending on an ominous note like that can really make the viewers think and reflect on the story. Additionally, it was an easier way to wrap things up and kept it from dragging on.
Overall, the theater department put on an amazing rendition of the very interesting and humorous play, “Almost, Maine.”
