St. Charles East’s girls’ tennis team took on State after successful matches at sectionals hosted by Geneva High School on Oct. 18-19, 2024. They scored 25 points as a team and came in third out of 10 teams. Girls who participated at State included junior Kelsey Jacob and sophomore Zoe Hermann playing singles, along with sophomore Harper Charlson and senior Avary Sitarz competing together in the doubles category.
State finals were held at Hersey High School on Oct. 24-26, 2024. Jacobs lost 6-1, 6-1 to senior Katrine Boianov from Lake Zurich high school in the first round. Going to the elimination round, she lost 6-1, 6-2 to senior Avery Trapp from Auburn High School. Hermann lost the first round 6-0, 6-0 to senior Sobia Shethwala from Niles North High School. Hermann lost the elimination round 6-1, 6-0 against senior Ella Loch from Hononegah High School. STCE’s doubles pair Charlson and Sitarz lost their first round 7-5, 4-6 (10-7) to juniors Lacey Foss and Harper Powell from Hononegah High School. They were eliminated with a loss of 6-1, 6-0 to junior Stella Tarushs and senior Kaylee Phillips from Wheaton North High School.
With the bright start of their season resulting in four girls making it to state, this is another step to success the team hopes to continue in the future.
