Believe it or not, my freshman year, I was shy. I didn’t know many people, and I was extremely awkward. I knew I wanted to be involved in theater, but lacked the talent for acting. Some upperclassmen in marching band had talked to me about set build,so I decided to give crew a try.
Little did I know, that would be the best decision I could’ve made. I befriended so many new people, and had the most amazing upperclassmen as mentors. I also met Madame Goss through theater, and she would eventually become my teacher who I would go to France with on the school trip. (Side note, if you are able to, you need to go on a school trip, it will be life changing.) As the year progressed, I learned more about the theater itself, and I even started working there.
At the end of my freshman year, I was the spotlight for the musical into the woods. That show was the most amazing experience. By then I had finally grown closer to the seniors, and I was so sad that they were leaving. I looked up to all of them.
Entering my senior year, me and the other seniors knew we had a lot to live up to. We discussed our plans throughout the summer on how we were going to do that. Then, we got some news.
One of the theater members of class of 22 had passed. We were all in shock. As we attended the celebration of life, I looked around and saw so many people that they knew from high school in attendance.
As a person, you impact more people than you know. Your actions matter, and even the smallest gestures may mean everything to someone else.
I hope that we successfully filled the shoes left behind by the Class of 2022, and I hope the freshman feel the same way about us, as we did to them.
