X-RAY’S 2020 Northern Illinois Press Association award recipients
East’s newspaper staff received several NISPA awards this year, including a blue ribbon for editorial writing awarded to co-editors Joseph Beeson and John Michelotti.

The 2019-2020 newspaper staff received several awards from the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association (NISPA). The usual annual award’s ceremony and workshop had to be canceled this year due to COVID-19 and the state shutdown.
The awards given were as follows: BLUE RIBBON FOR EDITORIAL WRITING, John Michelotti and Joseph Beeson; HONORABLE MENTION FOR FEATURE WRITING, Jeff Pape; HONORABLE MENTION FOR REVIEW WRITING, Jackson Stange; BLUE RIBBON FOR INDIVIDUAL IN-DEPTH NEWS STORY, Cat Crones, BLUE RIBBON FOR GRAPHICS, Nick Teegardin.
In the overall judging, the X-ray received a NISPA Silver Award.
Judging is based on the editor’s picks of their best three issues published from September 2019 through January 2020.
The award-winning stories will be published in the “Back to School” edition.
