As the school year is coming to a close, you may find yourself looking for an event to kick off summer break on the right foot. From music performances to summer night celebrations, the Fox Valley area offers options for everyone.
The City of St. Charles is hosting another year of the Fine Arts show. The show features over 100 fine artists, each hand-chosen by a jury for their unique talents and creations. The pieces range from ceramic sculptures, digital art, jewelry making and photography, all of which are available for purchase during the show. The showcase is scheduled to occur on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is free of charge for all attendees.
Every summer, the St. Charles community hosts a series of concerts throughout the warm months. The concerts feature various local bands and give community members the chance to enjoy music while also supporting small musicians. The city also sponsors vendors such as Kimmer’s Ice Cream and Wild Fries. The performances take place every Thursday night at the Lincoln Park gazebo starting May 28. It is recommended that guests bring their own chairs as seating will not be provided.
Annually, people from the tri-cities gather together for the Fourth of July celebration at Mount St. Mary’s Park. The fireworks are launched across the river at Langum Park and can be seen along the Fox River, with the best viewing locations downtown St. Charles and the Prairie Street bridge. The celebration offers concessions, music and entertainment at Pottawatomie Park, such as sand volleyball. While the fireworks don’t launch until dark, for the best seats, it’s recommended to arrive at the parks early. Seating is limited due to the influx of people, so make sure to bring a blanket, towel or lawn chairs for guaranteed seating.
The St. Charles Park District also opens up many activities during the summer months, such as paddlewheel riverboat cruises, mini-golf and the infamous Swanson pool. Otter Cove aquatic park, located on Campton Hills road, also opens up for the summer starting May 23. Prices for events through the park district range from 7 to 16 dollars for most adults, but are generally cheaper for younger attendees.
More information for these events and any other occasions can be found on the St. Charles Park District website.
