As Halloween approaches, you may find yourself searching for a haunted activity to get into the spooky spirit. This year, 5 Points Haunted House returns for another Halloween season to deliver more screams and scares than ever before.
The owner and former St. Charles East student, Miles McCabe, opened up 5 Points in 2024. Initially, he started with only a few animatronics; however, after developing a passion for them, he opened his first home haunt called “Lehman Manor.” The success of the haunted house he held in his home haunt inspired him to open up a professional commercial one, leading to the opening of one of what would become one of the most popular haunted houses in the area.

The barn that was transformed into 5 Points was built in the 1800s, originally owned by the Hawthorne family. After surviving both The Roaring Twenties and The Great Depression, the barn was turned into Synergy, a local bar and restaurant that attracted many people’s attention. Despite its popularity, Synergy ended up closing its doors in the early 2000s for unknown reasons, leaving the property abandoned for years.
5 Points features over 50 animatronics, including a 20-foot demon slayer, along with over 30 live action characters that help create a spooky atmosphere, including some from East’s own drama department. The attraction also holds a “no-scare” event on weekends for younger children or for those who prefer a more moderate Halloween experience.
Tickets for general admission cost 25 dollars; however, visitors have the option to purchase a seasonal pass, which gives them full access to both scare and non-scare events for 80 dollars. For visitors who just want the no scare experience, tickets cost 10 dollars each. More information could be found on the 5 Points website.
